Tournament Format

Warlords III consists of two qualification stages and a main event. In each qualification stage 96 players will be divided into six different single elimination brackets. The twelve winners of these brackets make it to the main event, where they will be joined by the invitees Hera, TaToH, The Viper and Yo.

Both of the qualification stages will consist of four rounds. The first three rounds will be played in a best of five format while the qualification finals will be best of seven series. Each of the rounds is opened for three to four days. During the first three rounds the players will be able to schedule and play their games based on their preference. Qualification finals will be set at certain starting times to allow for better live coverage.

The main event is played in a sixteen-player single-elimination format. The main event bracket will be determined by players seed but also by a certain randomisation element.

lightbulbMain Event Seeding & Draw
  • The top two players will be positioned in the upper and lower half of the bracket so they can`t meet before the final.
  • Players seeded 3 and 4 will then be randomly drawn in both halves of the bracket so they can potentially face either of the top 2 in the semifinals. So it can be seeds 1vs4 and 2vs3 or 1vs3 and 2vs4.
  • Next, players seeded 5 to 8 will be drawn in different positions. Each of them can be the potential opponent of the top 4 players in the quarterfinals.
  • Lastly we will draw the matchups for the first round (ro16). The players seeded 9 to 12 will be drawn against the players seeded between 5 to 8. The Players in the last four spots (13 to 16) will be drawn as opponents of the top 4.

The draw will be performed live after the last qualification final match has concluded.

The matches from the main event will be played in a best of seven format. The only exceptions are the grand final played as best of nine and the third place match played as a best of five set.

Match Settings

Except for the four invitees, all players must go through one of the two qualification stages. The top twelve players that make it to the end of the qualification stage will make it into the main event of the tournament. The qualification stages consist of four rounds of single-elimination.

lightbulbMap Drafting

All sets, during the tournament, use the same drafting formula. Before the map draft is initiated, the higher-seeded player decides which map-group the first map is to be played on. The draft is started, and the lower-seeded player must pick the first map from this group. Thereafter, players merely take turns choosing different maps. Once a map from a map-group has been selected, the remaining maps from that group are considered banned and can no longer be selected.

The higher-seeded player in the matchup must host the drafts.

The drafted map pool is shared, and players may pick any maps drawn by them or their opponent.

Arabia
Arabia is one of the most popular maps, characterized by its open and desert-like landscape. It lacks water bodies, promoting land-based warfare. The map is scattered with sparse forests, providing limited wood resources, and the terrain is uneven with occasional hills. The openness of the map leaves little room for players to hide, encouraging aggressive strategies and early skirmishes.
